Alex Iwobi and Everton teammate could be frozen out after source’s bid reveal – pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested Everton duo Dele Alli and Alex Iwobi have not done enough to keep their places under Frank Lampard amid interest in Morgan Gibbs-White.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the experienced duo must do more in order to break back into the first-team during the 2022-23 campaign.

Football Insider revealed last week (12 July) that Everton are confident of agreeing a deal for Wolves midfielder Gibbs-White, 22, despite seeing an initial offer of £22.5million rejected.

The Toffees have been encouraged by the fact the England Under-21 international is keen on a move to Goodison Park and the Midlands outfit are strapped for cash.

It is understood that Frank Lampard’s side are preparing a new bid for Gibbs-White.

He scored 13 goals in 40 appearances on loan at Sheffield United last term.

Whelan suggested the midfielder is a worthwhile addition as Everton begin the “rebuilding process”.

“We saw glimpses of quality from Dele Alli and Iwobi at the end of last season, but was it enough?” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“You expect more from players of their experience and quality. Everyone is fighting to stay in the Premier League – so they didn’t do that well.

“Look, Frank has been at the club long enough to see what he needs and in what areas.

“He’s identified Gibbs-White, who is young, he’ll be cemented in there for a number of years.

“This is what Everton have got to do now with this rebuilding process.

“It takes time to put the jigsaw pieces together. However, this is one that Everton seem hell-bent on getting done this summer.”

In other news, pundit claims Everton may be preparing to sell Anthony Gordon after source’s “huge” reveal.
