Alex Lowry may have heart set on Rangers exit as £250,000 talks scheduled – McLeish
Alex Lowry may have his heart set on a move away from Rangers following Nathan Patterson’s struggle to get game time this season.
That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 18-year-old’s future.
On 11 April, Football Insider revealed Rangers have offered Lowry £5,000-a-week to stay and have scheduled new talks with his family.
The Glasgow giants are trying to secure the future of the 18-year-old after, as revealed by this site (16 February), he knocked back their opening contract offer.
Rangers want him to agree a deal running to summer 2025 and that would replace his existing agreement, which expires next year.
However, after witnessing Patterson’s struggle to find minutes at Ibrox, McLeish has suggested Lowry could look to move on.
“I think it’s time to learn from Patterson,” McLeish told Football Insider deputy editor Russell Edge.
“He’s seen how hard it was for him to get into the team. Lowry might be thinking about going somewhere else, which is why they are holding out on the contract.
“It might not matter if they give him another £5000-a-week. It smacks of trying to make his fortune somewhere else.
“Somewhere where he doesn’t have to wait four years to get into the Rangers team.”

Patterson joined Everton in January but has failed to make an appearance in the Premier League.
Lowry has made four first-team appearances for the Gers and scored on his debut against Sterling Albion on 21 January.
In other news, Alex McLeish has shared a ‘100%’ Aaron Ramsey claim ahead of tonight’s Rangers clash.
