Alex Lowry: Rangers starlet wants to be ‘valued’ at Ibrox after contract snub – McLeish
Alex McLeish has insisted Alex Lowry will want to feel “valued” at Rangers after snubbing a new contract offer at Ibrox.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers manager suggested the 18-year-old would want a wage to reflect his status as a rising star at the club.
A Rangers source told Football Insider on Wednesday (16 January) that Lowry has knocked back the club’s opening offer of a three-and-a-half-year deal.
The starlet’s current terms at Ibrox run until the summer of 2023.
The Light Blues are keen to tie Lowry down and avoid him running down his contract over the next 18 months.
McLeish suggested Rangers will have a plan in place for the young attacking midfielder moving forward.
However, he admitted the teenager and his agent may feel he is being undervalued in negotiations.
McLeish told Football Insider’s “Rangers will know the markets. They’ve obviously got the academy guys there who should be predicting how far Lowry can go.
“They would be happy to see him signing again, the academy boys who have reared him and brought him through.
“But his agent and him must feel, to keep him at the club, he wants to be valued at a higher level of wage. He’s only human, like everybody else.”
Lowry was promoted to train with the first team earlier this season after impressing for the club’s B team.

He made a goal-scoring debut against Stirling Albion in the Scottish Cup in January.
The teenager has made a further two senior appearances, one of which came as a start in the league.
