Alex Rae: Midfielder is willing to take a wage cut to join Rangers
By Derek Smithson
Alex Rae has urged Rangers to complete a deal for Norwich midfielder Graham Dorrans and claims that he is willing to take a wage cut to join.
The 30-year-old midfielder has been a major target for the Gers this summer as manager Pedro Caxinha looks to bolster his squad.
The Scottish Sun have reported that Rangers are preparing a third bid for the midfielder after seeing their first two efforts rejected.
They had an initial £700,000 bid turned down by Norwich, while their second offer of just under £1million was also knocked back.
Dorrans remains a priority signing this summer and are set to return with another improved offer.
Rae believes that the Ibrox outfit must try and secure a deal for the Scotland international and feels he will bring some great know-how to the side.
“Dorrans would be a great addition and one of the things I’ve spoken to Alex McLeish about is that Rangers needs guys who know the club,” Rae said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun. “When I signed for Rangers we hadn’t beaten Celtic for five games — an entire season. Alex wanted players to come in and roll up their sleeves.
“Dorrans is steeped in that and I’m led to believe that he’s willing to take a wage cut, which shows he’s desperate to get up the road. The signings Pedro’s made will all be technically good, you’d imagine.
“Bruno Alves is a proven top-class player but there are times when you have to go up to a Ross County on a Tuesday night, very tough environments where it could be blowing a gale.”
Dorrans was unfortunate with injury during last season, but still made a positive impact in the Championship.
The central midfielder made 24 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and supplying one assists in return.
He is recognised as a goalscoring midfielder and has experience in Scottish football.
Caixinha has been extremely busy in the transfer window so far and already added eight new faces.
Mexican pair Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera both completed moves to Rangers on Thursday, who join Alfredo Morelos, Fabio Cardoso, Daniel Candeias, Ryan Jack, Bruno Alves and Dalcio as new recruits.
In other Rangers transfer news, the club’s duo are on the radar of an English club.
