Alfie Whiteman: Tottenham insider reveals 23-yr-old has signed new deal after loan agreed

Goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman has signed a one-year contract extension with Tottenham.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

On 10 February, Whiteman rejoined Degerfors IF on loan for the duration of the 2022 Swedish season.

The 23-year-old returned to Spurs in December after spending the 2021 season on loan at Degerfors, making 13 league appearances.

Tottenham are yet to announce Whiteman has signed a new deal but Wenham has been told a deal needed to be agreed as he was set to be out of contract this summer.

“He was left out of the Premier League squad so he had to get football somewhere else,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I know he has extended his contract by one year. Tottenham haven’t officially announced this but I know that is the case.

“He was set to be out of contract at the end of the season so I was told that’s why he has signed a one-year extension.

“When he comes back in the summer he will have another season of football under his belt.

“They are quite a small Swedish side and I think he’s popular up there, after he helped to keep them up last season.

“I’ll be keeping an eye on how he does.”

Tottenham included Brandon Austin in the Premier League squad instead of Whiteman.

Austin is third choice behind Hugo Lloris and Pierluigi Gollini.
