Alfredo Morelos cited after Rangers transfer latest – ‘he is talking about signing…’, says pundit

Frank McAvennie has urged Rangers to hold off on January additions until players return from injury.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Celtic striker said players like Alfredo Morelos need the competition from returning players.

Antonio Colak was back in the starting XI for the 2-0 win over Dundee United on Sunday (8 January).

It was the 29-year-old’s first start since the World Cup break after picking up a calf injury last month.

Kemar Roofe also made an appearance off the bench for the first time since October after suffering numerous injury setbacks last year.

Morelos was relegated back to the bench despite enjoying five games leading the line following Michael Beale’s arrival and Colak’s injury.

Morelos’ current contract expires in the summer and the Gers have failed to secure a new deal for the Colombian.

Last month (10 December), Football Insider revealed that the Light Blues have been unable to agree a new contract with the striker after he demanded £45,000-per-week.

The uncertainty surrounding the forward’s future has encouraged Beale to look for other options.

Speaking to Sky Sports (6 January), the boss said he has spoken to at least two players who are keen to join the Glasgow club “sooner rather than later”.

But McAvennie urged Beale to hold off on new additions.

He is talking about signing players but Rangers need to get all their players back fit,” he told Football Insider.

Rangers

Morelos is not doing anything for them. It is a shame but he is not doing anything.

Now that Roofe and Colak are coming back hopefully there will be a bit of competition.

In other news, Rangers have been tipped for January ‘shake-up’ as Yilmaz ‘going to leave’.
