Alfredo Morelos told to ‘show his worth’ at Rangers after contract news – Hutton

Alan Hutton has told Alfredo Morelos to “show his worth” to get back to being first choice at Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said the Bears will want to tie down the 26-year-old but ultimately the “ball is in his court”.

The Columbia international started for the Light Blues in their Champions League game against Liverpool on Tuesday (4 October).

He was replaced by Antonio Colak for the final 15 minutes of the 2-0 defeat.

Speaking to RangersReview (1 October), managing director Stewart Robertson said talks over a new contract for the striker are “ongoing”.

Robertson added that he is willing to give Morelos time to make a decision over his future.

Morelos has entered the final 12 months of his Ibrox contract.

He has made just eight appearances for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side this season, with the manager favouring in form Colak.

When asked if that could be a factor in Morelos’ decision about his future, Hutton told Football Insider: “You have to take that into consideration.

For himself, he is not playing at this moment in time but it is up to him. He has to go and show his worth now after coming back from a long layoff with injury. So the ball is in his court.

There is no getting away from the fact that he is an outstanding player. He makes the team better and Rangers will want to tie him down. Yes it comes in to it but obviously you want to see him stay at the football club.
