Alisson: Expert issues ‘honest’ verdict as controversial Liverpool footage analysed

Paul Robinson has applauded the officials for their decision not to penalise Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson after an incident involving Nottingham Forest’s Ryan Yates.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England number one admitted Alisson, 29, was “running the risk” with his goalkeeping at the City Ground but is adamant it wasn’t a penalty.

As shown on ITV (20 March), Yates was played in behind the Liverpool defence and went to ground after Alisson came charging out of his goal.

Forest’s players surrounded referee Craig Pawson after the incident which they felt was a clear penalty.

However, after a VAR check, the game resumed with no penalty awarded to the home side.

The decision would prove to be pivotal with Liverpool running out eventual 1-0 winners.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the controversial incident at the City Ground, Robinson said:

“As soon as you put your hands out you run the risk. You know that I am a big part of the goalkeepers union but even if I wasn’t, I do not think that is a penalty.

“As soon as you come out that far and put your arms out like that and miss the ball, you run the risk of conceding a penalty.

“But, in all honesty, I do not think that was a penalty. I think the referee got it spot on.”
