‘All of a sudden…’ – Man United ‘having second thoughts’ about top manager candidate
Man United are having second thoughts about top managerial target Oliver Glasner following Crystal Palace’s sudden decline in form.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that red flags have been raised as a result of the Eagles’ recent performances.
Crystal Palace were beaten 2-1 by Macclesfield in a humiliating result as they kicked off their FA Cup defence with the cup’s biggest ever giant killing.
This result was the latest, and most shocking, in a nine-game winless run for the South Londoners over what has been a hugely congested winter period.
While Glasner remains a top target at Old Trafford, the chief decision-makers are prepared to weigh up a number of pros and cons over the remainder of the season.

Man United have doubts about Oliver Glasner
The imminent appointment of Michael Carrick as Man United’s interim manager is designed to give the club time to ensure they land the best options for the full-time role.
Glasner’s stock has fallen in recent weeks, but he remains highly regarded for the job he has done at Palace, and will be watched closely as his side seek major improvements.
“Oliver Glasner is one of the leading candidates,” Brown told Football Insider.
“But, all of a sudden, Palace go to Macclesfield and lose there and they’re in this terrible run of form, so it raises questions and put doubts in your mind.
“Man United will be having second thoughts about whether he is the right man for the job.
“Of course, they don’t have to make a decision until the summer with Michael Carrick coming in, so they have time to assess and keep an eye on their different options.
“Ultimately, managers are judged based on results, so their stock can rise and fall very quickly.
“If somebody like Glasner has Palace performing above their level, it’s going to catch the eye, and if they’re below their level then questions will be asked.
“He’s clearly a very impressive and capable manager, and there are issues at Crystal Palace which have been well-documented already this season.
“But as I say, it comes down to results, so in terms of the Man United job, red flags have been raised they will be looking for him to turn around this form.”
Man United eye top-class appointment after Glasner news
Football Insider revealed on 11 January that Man United are lining up a “top-class” manager to become their next permanent boss following an interim spell.
Alongside Glasner, former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca is one of the names on their shortlist following his dramatic exit from Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Day.
Following this, Football Insider revealed on 11 January that Julian Nagelsmann is an option for Man United, with Christopher Vivell pushing for his appointment.

Vivell and Nagelsmann previously worked together at RB Leipzig and enjoy a strong relationship which would aid his case for landing the Man United job.
Another name on their list is Thomas Tuchel, who could leave England following the World Cup and remains highlt regarded at Old Trafford.
