Allan McGregor facing extended spell on Rangers sidelines after what expert has heard
Alan Hutton has suggested Allan McGregor could be replaced by Jon McLaughlin at Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back said fans will “soon find out” if Michael Beale has changed his first choice goalkeeper.
McLaughlin was back in the starting XI for the Light Blues in the 2-0 win over Dundee United on Sunday (8 January).
Speaking to Sky Sports before the game, Beale said his decision was “nothing against” McGregor but felt the style of game against United would be better suited to 35-year-old McLaughlin.
McLaughlin was between the sticks for the game against Ross County on 23 December whilst McGregor recovered from an illness and the boss was impressed by his performance.
When asked if it is difficult as a defender to have the goalkeeper changing regularly, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think it is.
“Normally when you look at teams in general, I know it is slightly changing now, the back four and goalkeeper used to stay the same.
“You build up those partnerships, you know when the keeper is coming out, what he is going to do with the ball.

“I did listen to Beale and his explanation. He obviously thinks McLaughlin is slightly better at coming for cross balls, he thought that was going to be a target for Dundee United to get the ball into the box.
“You have to take him at his word. We will soon find out in upcoming weeks if he has decided to change his mind long-term but he did give and explanation for it.“
