Mark Allen is set to deliver the first heavyweight blow of the summer transfer window, after Football Insider revealed that Scott Arfield is set to join Rangers as soon as the window opens on June 9.
Arfield has told Allen that he will join them and will pen a pre-contract agreement ahead of the Scottish window opening, and it proves that with Allen as Director of Football, Rangers are in safe hands.
It hasn’t been a great season for Rangers, starting with Pedro Caixinha’s disastrous reign.
And, despite early promise from Graeme Murty, it seems he is out of his depth at the top echelons of Scottish football.
To make it worse, Rangers fans had to suffer a 4-0 humiliation to Celtic and then the further ignominy of two of their star players being suspended.

However, the news of Arfield is proof that top quality players will still come to Ibrox and see the club as a big draw.
Arfield has still got what it takes to play in the Premier League.
The midfielder has made 18 appearances for Burnley this season but has seen his season curtailed through injury.
Burnley are flying high as well – challenging Arsenal at the top end of the table.
Arfield has a huge amount of fans in the game.
Former Newcastle United midfielder and ex-Huddersfield and Kilmarnock boss Lee Clark heaped praise on him in the Daily Mail and admitted he was surprised that he would move to Ibrox.
He brought Arfield to Huddersfield in 2010 and said of him: “He was different class for me. He’s a great athlete and a great lad. He’s just an outstanding lad and a tremendous footballer. For me, it would be an outstanding signing for Rangers.
