Ally McCoist drops brutal one-word reaction to Rangers loss v Motherwell
Ally McCoist did not hold back on social media as Rangers lost 2-1 to Motherwell during Barry Ferguson’s first home game in charge on Saturday.
Ferguson’s reign has gotten off to the rockiest of starts, going two goals down to Kilmarnock before staging a 4-2 comeback last time out, but could not recreate that result at Ibrox on 1 March.
A Jack Butland blunder gifted Luke Armstrong the opener for the Steelmen, having spilt Dan Casey’s simple strike before Tom Sparrow doubled the visitor’s lead, and this all happened before half-time.
Cyriel Dessers grabbed one goal back nine minutes into the second half, pouncing on yet another mistake in the game, but it was the first 45 minutes that the Ibrox legend was appalled by.

Ally McCoist shocked by Rangers’ first-half performance v Motherwell
Taking to X [1 March], McCoist simply wrote: “Embarrassing,” summing up the emotions of all the frustrated fans watching on at Ibrox.
The 62-year-old is rarely one to hold back, especially when speaking on talkSPORT, and he has made his feelings well-known once again following a shocking display against the team sitting sixth in the Scottish Premiership.
Ibrox faithful must remain patient after Philippe Clement sack
Football Insider verdict
Fans got exactly what they wanted when Patrick Stewart finally pulled the trigger on Philippe Clement’s time in charge, but Ferguson was never going to be an immediate fix until the end of the season.
Kilmarnock’s Derek McInnes has already been tipped as the next Rangers manager, and many would welcome him at Ibrox following a successful spell at Rugby Park.
Rangers (1st half) | Motherwell (1st half) |
62% possession | 38% possession |
11 shots | 4 shots |
1 big chance | 2 big chances |
0.56xG | 0.72xG |
Paul Robinson has also suggested Sean Dyche to succeed Ferguson once his interim spell comes to an end at Rangers, though that has not been greeted as well by the fans.
Supporters do have reason to remain positive, with the San Francisco 49ers looking to seal a Rangers takeover, but they will have to be patient before full-scale changes can be made by the possible new owners.
Changes need to be made, from the pitch right to the very top of the Ibrox hierarchy, and new owners can certainly bring about those much-needed changes.
