‘Amazing’ – Exclusive: Paul Robinson in awe of new West Brom signing
Paul Robinson has waxed lyrical about West Brom new-boy Mbaye Diagne after he made his full debut against Sheffield United.
The former Spurs and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed that the 29-year-old, who boats an “amazing” goal record, will be a “real threat” for Sam Allardyce’s side for the remainder of the season.
Albion signed the Senegalese striker on loan from Galatasaray last week – one of five signings the club made in the January transfer window.
Diagne made his debut as a substitute in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Fulham and was handed his first start three days later at Bramall Lane.
He grabbed an assist for Matt Phillips’ opener but it was ultimately a disappointing full debut for the Senegal international with the Baggies beaten 2-1 by their relegation rivals.
When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on West Brom’s transfer business, Robinson said: “Sam is very good in the transfer window and he has done well again.
“Diagne, the signing from Galatasaray, he looks like a real handful.
“His goalscoring record is great, wherever he has been, he has scored goals – no matter what league or what team he has been in. His goal to game ratio is amazing, he knows where the goal is.
“He is going to be a real threat because Sam likes to be direct and get bodies around the striker. They can do that now because they have a central pin.”
