‘Amorim to leave Man United after Harry Maguire rock bottom’ – Fans shocked
Man United fans have took to social media to call for Ruben Amorim’s sacking after the club decided to extend Harry Maguire’s contract
It was revealed by Amorim on Friday 3 January that Maguire will stay for at least another season thanks to a one-year trigger to extend his deal.
He’s been a mainstay since Amorim has come in, deployed as the central centre-back in a back three. He has started the last four Premier League games.
The Portuguese coach said that the club are “starving for leaders” and that they “need him a lot” [via Sky Sports on X].
Man United and Ruben Amorim need to improve, and do it fast
It’s been a mixed start under the new coach for United, made even tougher by a run of four consecutive defeats.
This slump in form has seen the team stuck in 14th place, closer to the relegation zone than the race for a Champions League spot.

However, Maguire has quietly impressed coach Rúben Amorim within the new three-centre-back system. He celebrated the performance against Manchester City on social media after a dramatic win.
Football Insider revealed in December that Amorim plans to assess the 31-year-old’s performances further before making a final decision on his contract extension.
Despite persistent criticism from fans, it appears the coach values Maguire’s contributions for now and sees him as an important part of stabilising the first team during these challenging early days of his tenure.
Fans, on the other hand, remain far from impressed. One commented that “Amorim should do better”, calling for higher standards, while another openly called for his sack.
Another supporter expressed frustration, claiming that the club’s reliance on Maguire as a leader highlights how they’ve “truly hit rock bottom”.
