Andrew Cavenagh has just sealed Danny Rohl’s fate with comments on Rangers bust-up: “No questions asked’
Andrew Cavenagh has effectively opted to side with Danny Rohl after the recent bust-up at Rangers involving James Tavernier.
The departing captain was left out of the starting XI by the manager for the home clash against Hibernian last Wednesday, a decision which prompted him to withdraw from the matchday squad.
It was an explosive end to what has been an illustrious Ibrox career for the right-back, and the situation has since been shrouded in speculation in recent days.
Rangers’ chairman Cavenagh has already begun to review the 2025-26 season after its conclusion on Saturday, and the future of Rohl as manager has been one of the major talking points after the recent run of form.
Rohl had led Rangers into title contention via an impressive run in the Scottish Premiership, but his team saw their campaign fall apart during the crucial league split.

Cavenagh made his thoughts clear regarding the bust-up between Rohl and Tavernier on Sunday, and it is clear that he has chosen to side with the German on this occasion.
The club chief acknowledged that it was purely Rohl’s decision to leave the veteran out of the lineup, while adding that the club have been trying to differentiate between “celebrating somebody and sporting decisions.”

The American accepted that the situation should have been handled better by all parties, but Rangers Review have shared a crucial line from him that surely shows how he truly feels about the incident.
“I think everybody would understand why Tav would be emotional about the situation,” he said.
“But that’s where I also want to say a couple of things on behalf of the club that are really important. When you are asked to pull on a Rangers jersey, you pull it on. No questions asked.”
That is surely a clear indication that Cavenagh feels that the majority of the blame lies with Tavernier, and while he has been keen to push the idea that the incident is now “water under the bridge,” it certainly wouldn’t have been if the skipper was still under contract.
However, as things stand, Cavenagh has been able to clearly take Rohl’s side on the incident, which is surely a strong indicator that his fate has been sealed, and he will remain in charge for the foreseeable future.
Rangers forced to deal with ‘very damaging’ financial hit
Former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider earlier this week that Rangers’ third-place finish will be “very damaging” for their financial situation this summer.
The Scottish businessman made it clear that Cavenagh and Co. will have to find ways of dragging their commercial revenue up if they want to compete, given that they will have little money coming into their coffers from European football.
Wyness suggested that the Gers are in for a “tough” season next term as a result, and their financial hit undoubtedly creates a strong need for prudent transfer business.
The recruitment team will have to truly place emphasis on their ability to find bargains in the market, as the club cannot afford to waste a single penny on additions who underperform.
Rohl’s future appears to be totally secure, but their could be plenty of movement around him at Ibrox ahead of next term.
