Andy Robertson responds as Van Dijk sends message to Liverpool fans
Andy Robertson has responded to an emotional message from Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk.
Arne Slot’s men finished their Premier League title-winning season with a 1-1 draw against FA Cup champions Crystal Palace on Sunday, 25 May.
The Reds have not won since their 5-1 triumph over Tottenham on 27 April, which clinched their second top-flight title in five years.
But while Liverpool have ended their campaign with a four-game winless streak, Slot deserves plenty of credit for winning the Premier League in his first season in English football.

Robertson responds as Van Dijk thanks Liverpool fans via social media
Van Dijk has been a rock at the back for the Merseyside outfit this season, while he also scored three goals in 37 Premier League outings.
The Netherlands star celebrated Liverpool’s title success via Instagram on Monday, 26 May, as he wrote: “His Story. Grateful, blessed & privileged, proud – so many words that come to my mind after lifting the Premier League trophy as the captain.
Winning my second Premier League in 5 years is a blessing. Thanks to my family, my team behind the team, the players, staff, and of course, you guys – our fans! It’s been an incredible season for us. Now let’s celebrate! All together.”
Andy Robertson commented with three red-heart emojis, while Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, and former Liverpool midfielder James Milner all liked the post.
Florian Wirtz turns down Bayern Munich amid Liverpool interest
Liverpool have already completed important business during the season, as the Anfield side negotiated fresh contracts with Van Dijk and Premier League golden boot winner Mohamed Salah.
Virgil van Dijk stats | Premier League 2024/25 |
Appearances | 37 |
Tackles won % | 52.6 |
Duels won % | 68.7 |
Pass accuracy % | 91.7 |
Goals | 3 |
Trent Alexander-Arnold did not join Van Dijk and Salah in agreeing new terms with the Reds, and is set to join Real Madrid, but Slot can now turn his full attention to the summer transfer window.
As the 46-year-old looks to further bolster his ranks, Liverpool have set their sights on a move for Germany and Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
Wirtz has reportedly turned down interest from Bayern Munich in favour of a potential move to Liverpool because he has been impressed by the progress the Merseyside club have made under Slot.
The 22-year-old could be a successful acquisition for the Premier League champions, as he has made 22 goal contributions in 31 Bundesliga outings this season.
If Liverpool sign Wirtz, he would likely occupy the ‘number 10’ role, which could allow Dominik Szoboszlai to play deeper in midfield.
Meanwhile, Ian Darke exclusively spoke to Liverpool News 247 about whether Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers could join the Reds.
