Ange Postecoglou certain to sign ‘long-term’ Celtic contract after update – pundit

Celtic will offer a new long-term deal to Ange Postecoglou after his “outstanding” debut campaign as manager.

That’s according to former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Hoops boss’ future.

The 56-year-old penned a 12-month rolling contract when he took over at Parkhead last summer (2021).

The Daily Record reported on 12 May that the club are set to open talks over a longer-term deal after he won the Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup in his first season.

Postecoglou was named the Scottish Premiership manager of the season, as well as winning the equivalent award at the PFA Scotland awards and Scottish Football Writers awards.

Agbonlahor is certain Postecoglou will be offered a new deal before the start of next season.

“I think he does deserve that long-term deal, he has been outstanding this season,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“I’m sure they will give him that. It’s big for Scottish football. It’s great for Scottish football.

“Rangers and Celtic both look really good at the moment, next season is going to be really exciting.

“I remember as a kid always watching Rangers v Celtic, now, more people will be watching because they are both doing well.”

Celtic signed off their season with a 6-0 win over Motherwell on the final day of the campaign (14 May).

After the game, Postecoglou addressed the Parkhead crowd and thanked them for their support.
