Ange Postecoglou could quit Celtic with ‘great opportunity’ on the horizon – pundit

Paul Robinson suspects Celtic should be worried about Ange Postecoglou’s future despite his recent comments.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one insisted Everton is an attractive proposition for managers despite their current league position.

Frank Lampard’s position at Goodison Park is under scrutiny following a poor run of form.

According to journalist Alan Nixon (13 November), Celtic boss Postecoglou is “top of the wishlist” for the Toffees should they part company with Lampard.

However, as quoted by the Scotsman (17 November), the 57-year-old said he “loves” his job at Celtic despite the speculation surrounding him.

Postecoglou is on a 12-month rolling deal in Glasgow.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said: “Look, Everton are a very big club.

“Yes, they are struggling right now but that does not take away from the fact that they are an established Premier League club with a great fanbase.

“They have the new stadium on the way as well. It would be a great opportunity for Postecoglou.

Celtic

“The truth of the matter is, you are almost never going to get the opportunity to go into a club when they are doing well. Managers only get sacked because they are doing poorly. That is certainly the case nine times out of 10.

“I do not think league position would be a reason for Postecoglou not to take over at Everton. The club has great potential. If they did part ways with Lampard, there is an opportunity there for someone to make them better.”
