Ange Postecoglou sack latest: O’Rourke drops update today

Ange Postecoglou is fighting to save his job at Nottingham Forest after a dismal start to his tenure since taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nottingham Forest’s 2-0 defeat to Newcastle last time out, meaning the boss has now gone seven games without a win across all competitions so far.

As a result, Forest fans have called for Postecoglou’s head, with large sections of the crowd singing “sacked in the morning” during their defeat to Midtjylland.

However, Football Insider revealed on 6 October that Postecoglou will be given time by Nottingham Forest’s hierarchy, who are hopeful he can turn things around.

Upcoming games against Chelsea, Porto and Bournemouth could prove decisive, while he remains determined to wrestle control over their dismal form.

Ange Postecoglou told how to save his Nottingham Forest job

Should Postecoglou fail to turn Forest’s fortunes around after the international break, there remains a very strong possibility that he will be dismissed from his role.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the manager must start winning games to prove he deserves more time in the job.

Marinakis has already shown his ruthlessness when things aren’t going right at Forest, and while the boss will be given time to turn things around, failure to do so could see him sacked.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Yeah, he definitely needs to start winning games. He knows that himself more than anybody.

“Football management is a cutthroat business, you need results as a manager and the owners and fans demand immediate success, there isn’t much patience.

“Postecoglou came out fighting after the Newcastle game, saying he’s up for the challenge and up for the fight to try and turn things around but he needs the backing.

“He knows how fragile football management is in that respect, so he won’t be holding his breath.

“It does look like he is going to get a stay of execution in this current international break.

“Obviously there’s due to be talks between Postecoglou and Marinakis, but it does seem that he will be given at least a few more games to try and turn things around at Forest.”

Postecoglou is attempting to convince Marinakis that he is the right man for the job at the City Ground, with talks ongoing about their current situation.

Nottingham Forest eye Postecoglou replacements

The decision to sack Nuno earlier this season came as Marinakis already had Postecoglou lined up as his immediate successor at the City Ground.

However, with Postecoglou now under growing pressure, preparations are ongoing behind the scenes to line up his potential replacements should they decide to pull the trigger.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider on 9 October that Marco Silva is in line to replace Postecoglou with his future at Fulham uncertain.

There are concerns that managers could be put off the Nottingham Forest job, although it is still seen as an attractive prospect despite the recent uncertainty.

The likes of Oliver Glasner, Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna have also been tipped as potential replacements for Postecoglou, with preparations being made for his exit.
