Tottenham fans have taken their anger out on Ange Postecoglou after he appeared to goad the crowd during their loss to Chelsea.

Tottenham suffered their 16th defeat of the season following another underwhelming display in a 1-0 loss at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Fernandez scored the only goal in a heated London derby, although both sides saw goals chalked off with Pape Matar Sarr’s effort for Spurs and Moises Caicedo’s strike for Chelsea being cancelled after VAR reviews.

Tensions flared when Postecoglou was seen cupping his ears towards the away end after Sarr’s goal was ruled out. The gesture came just moments after he substituted Lucas Bergvall for Sarr, a decision met with boos from the travelling fans.

The Australian addressed the incident in his post-match press conference, saying: “It’s incredible how things get interpreted. We just scored. I wanted to hear them cheer.” But many supporters didn’t see it that way.

While Postecoglou has previously been under scrutiny from the Tottenham fanbase, this latest moment may have pushed some to the edge, with frustration boiling over after a string of disappointing results.

Spurs are languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, and with just eight games remaining, a mid-table finish looks increasingly likely.

Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Postecoglou is unlikely to remain in the dugout next season, despite having previously received backing from the board.

Football Insider also revealed that Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has emerged as a potential replacement for Postecoglou following his impressive work with the Cherries this season.

Bournemouth, despite suffering three consecutive defeats, remain just six points off sixth-placed Newcastle and are still in contention for European qualification.

Iraola’s attractive style of play, combined with positive results throughout the season, has likely caught the attention of the Spurs hierarchy—particularly as Postecoglou has struggled to deliver consistency nearly two seasons into his tenure.

Postecoglou’s relationship with the fanbase had already become strained prior to the Chelsea defeat, but his gesture towards the fans during the match—cupping his ears following a disallowed goal—sparked further unrest.

Supporters have since taken to social media to demand his sacking. One fan wrote, “Gotta go now. He looks like he wants to be put out of his misery” while another added, “He wants the sack and the pay-off.”
