Ange Postecoglou termination: The cost of Nottingham Forest sack revealed

Evangelos Marinakis’ decision to sack Ange Postecoglou will come with financial consequences, the Nottingham Forest owner has been warned.

That is according to football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley who exclusively told Football Insider of the consequences Nottingham Forest could face if they don’t sack Postecoglou.

Postecoglou was sacked by Forest immediately after Saturday’s defeat to Chelsea left the team 17th in the Premier League table and just one point above the drop zone having played a game more than their rivals at that point.

Sources told Football Insider that Sean Dyche is now in pole position to be the new Forest manager and that contact has already been made over a deal.

Nottingham Forest face ‘financial hit’ sacking Postecoglou

Nottingham Forest have made three new appointments behind the scenes, and speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Plumley has explained what it could cost for the club hierarchy to sack Postecoglou.

“It clings to the contract, and it will come at a financial cost. We don’t know the salary number but it’s a two-year deal,” Plumley said.

Whatever the value is of that two-year contract, at whatever point you wanted to terminate there would be some compensation.

A lot of the times now these compensation fees are already linked into contracts, it’s done at the start so there are stipulations in there where the manager will know if we terminate the contract at whatever point in time you will get this amount.

It is often baked in now due to the nature of hiring and firing. It’s going to be a financial hit to get rid of him.

Evangelos Marinakis could be forced to pay for next manager

Marinakis may be regretting his decision to sack now West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo before his decision to appoint Postecoglou.

Postecoglou has yet to win a game at the club, and the Australian could be relieved of his duties at two clubs in a matter of months having been sacked at Spurs in June.

Silva’s contract runs out at end of the season at Fulham, though it is unlikely that if Mariankis wants the Portuguese he will want till the campaign concludes.

Fulham would also be unlikely to let Silva leave his contract early without a financial settlement.
