‘Ange Postecoglou to lose Tottenham dressing room over Timo Werner’
Ange Postecoglou is in danger of losing the Tottenham dressing room following his public criticism to Timo Werner, according to Carlton Cole.
The German international extended his loan from RB Leipzig to Spurs during the summer window but failed to make an impact.
Spurs were held to a 1-1 draw by Rangers on 12 December, and Werner received heavy criticism for his performance.
He was substituted at half-time, with some fans even calling for his loan to be terminated immediately.
Postecoglou was also highly critical of the former Chelsea forward, labelling his display as “unacceptable” [Sky Sports].
Carlton Cole discussed this on talkSPORT and questioned how the players would respond to such public criticism.
He said: “If it’s that obvious, you go and tell him. Because now it’s an insult to you and his teammates.
“If you pander to the media first, before you’ve gone and told the player, and then the other players hear it in the press… you will lose the dressing room.
“Because now the players don’t feel that you’ll protect them when it’s tough.
He added, “He’s got every right to say it. But go say it to him…Werner is not his star player. So why are you picking on him? What about the others? It’s strange to me.”
Tottenham reaction will be key to the future of Ange Postecoglou
The Australian coach made headlines by openly criticising one of his players for what feels like the first time.
While some supported his remarks after such a poor display, Cole’s perspective is understandable.

Postecoglou isn’t facing immediate dismissal, with discussions about the January transfer window ongoing. However, how the team responds to his comments in the coming weeks will be crucial.
The North London club have seen players down tools before after public criticism and even the owner, Daniel Levy, isn’t too fond of that. Just ask Antonio Conte.
Werner won’t be returning to Germany early in January, but sometimes tough decisions are unavoidable, especially when a manager’s position feels precarious.
If Tottenham back their coach in the transfer market, they must also support him in making bold calls such as this.
In other news, Spurs are working on a deal to sign a “top-class” centre-back in January.
