Angel Di Maria: Van Gaal at Man United was ‘worst’ manager of my career
Angel Di Maria has blasted his former Man United boss Louis van Gaal as the worst manager he ever played under.
Speaking to ESPN Argentina, the 36-year-old winger said: “The worst is Van Gaal, of that I can assure you without a doubt, just to let you know before you ask.
“In case you had any doubt, I’ll clear that up for you right now.”
Van Gaal was the manager who brought Di Maria to Old Trafford for £59.7million from Real Madrid, breaking the British transfer fee at the time.
Di Maria’s time at the Premier League giants was forgettable, and he ended up leaving for PSG for £44million the next year.
The Argentina international has played for a variety of coaches throughout his career, including Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti.
Angel Di Maria didn’t enjoy playing for Louis van Gaal at Man United
Di Maria’s spell at Man United is a low-light in an otherwise glittering career for the winger.
The Argentine only made 32 appearances for the 20-time champions in all competitions, scoring just four goals.
Di Maria did create 11 assists, but he struggled to find the form he had showcased throughout his career in the Premier League.

Di Maria is currently playing for Benfica for the second time in his career after returning to Portugal in 2023.
Van Gaal has since retired from coaching, with Man United being his final club role.
