‘Angry’ Ronaldo is fuming with senior Man United man – ex-manager
Ronaldo is “smarting” with Erik ten Hag after not starting for Man United in the Manchester derby.
That’s according to former Rangers and Scotland boss Alex McLeish, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Erik ten Hag’s recent comments.
Ronaldo was an unused substitute in Man United’s 6-3 loss at the Etihad on Sunday (2 October).
As shown on Sky Sports (2 October), the Portugal international cast a frustrated figure on the bench throughout the 90 minutes.
Erik ten Hag told Sky Sports (2 October) that he did not bring on Ronaldo “out of respect” for the career he has had.
McLeish insists Ronaldo will actually be annoyed about not starting the game and suggested the striker would have refused to come on if Ten Hag had asked him.
“I get what the manager has said,” McLeish told Football Insider’s Ben Wild.
“You bring Ronaldo onto the pitch when you are three or four nil down and he is thinking ‘well what have I walked into here?’.
“I don’t think he has experience of that before, I get what Ten Hag is saying. What I think Ronaldo will be smarting about most is that he didn’t start.
“That is the real thing that players are most angry about. You see your team getting beat and then you might have had an incident where Ronaldo refuses to come on.
“That’s the last thing they would have needed. It will be interesting to see what happens in January.”

Ronaldo returned to the Man United starting XI for Thursday’s (6 October) Europa League 3-2 win against Omonia.
Man United are next in action against Everton on Sunday (9 October).
