‘Annoying’ – Murty makes admission after Rangers loss v St Johnstone
Interim Rangers boss Graeme Murty has admitted he was frustrated at the way his side shipped goals against St. Johnstone in the 3-1 defeat by the Perth side on Saturday.
The Ibrox giants took the lead against Tommy Wright’s side before Blair Alston’s stunning volley levelled the scoreline within a few minutes.
Two second-half strikes sealed a surprise win for the Saints and condemned the Gers to their first defeat in five games.
Murty revealed his players had been shown similar scenarios as the ones St. Johnstone capitalised on and admitted watching them back will be a massive struggle for him.
“I was disappointed with all the goals to be honest and when I go away and have a look at them in more detail I will probably find it really hard not to put my fist through a screen,” Murty said, as quoted by the Belfast Telegraph.
“That display of emotion will just be for me.
“It is just understanding that we showed the players what St Johnstone were going to try and do and the goals came from that scenario.
“That is the annoying part for me, not necessarily that they happened but the manner that we allowed them to happen
“All three goals were quite poor.”
The result means Rangers have slipped back into third place in the Scottish Premiership behind Aberdeen and leaders Celtic.
The Gers face Kilmarnock on Saturday before a trip to Celtic Park to face rivals Celtic on December 30th.
The Ibrox giants trail their Old Firm rivals by five points – with Aberdeen two points behind Brendan Rodgers’ side – and haven’t won against the Hoops in the league for six years.
Interim boss Murty is expected to remain in charge of the Gers until after the Old Firm clash with the club likely to try and appoint Pedro Caixinha’s successor soon.
In other Rangers news, Jim Duffy has urged the Gers to appoint this 59-year-old as soon as possible.
