Anthony Gordon could stay at Everton until 2024 as ‘massive’ claim made – pundit

Anthony Gordon should stay at Everton for another full season if he wants to have a successful career.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about

According to football.london (20 November), the Lilywhites are continuing to monitor the 21-year-old’s situation ahead of the January window.

The London club attempted to capture the youngster alongside Richarlison in the summer window but were only able to bring the Brazilian to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Gordon still has three years left on his contract with the Toffees.

McManus insists staying at Goodison Park is the best thing for Gordon’s career.

“I’ve seen it a million times, players move when they aren’t ready and then their career just fizzles out,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“Gordon has played 60 or 70 games for Everton, you really need to be looking at 140 or 150 before you make a big move.

“Right now he doesn’t have the maturity to handle it, I don’t think anyway. Think about where he will be in another 70 games if he gets his head down and grafts at Everton.

“He’s the main man there. If he went somewhere else then maybe he wouldn’t be getting the same minutes and his development would be stagnating.

“He’s a massive, solid, raw talent. There is no doubting that. You don’t want to see him making mistakes at this point in his career.”

Gordon made 14 league appearances in the first half of the season.

He scored three goals.
