Anthony Gordon: Pundit savages ’embarrassing’ Everton star as Liverpool controversy analysed

Noel Whelan has blasted Anthony Gordon for a “definite dive” as Everton lost 2-0 at Liverpool on Sunday.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 21-year-old saw subsequent appeals waved away as a result of “crying wolf” in the first half.

Gordon was booked for simulation after going over Naby Keita’s outstretched leg in the 18-yard box with the score still 0-0 midway through the first half.

Commentating on the game for Sky Sports, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said he had noticed the Toffees midfielder has a “tendency” to dive – and warned that “he’s somebody we’ve got to keep an eye on now”.

Whelan also singled out Richarlison as someone he “can’t stand to watch” after his on-field antics yesterday (24 April).

“He’s done himself no favours with the first one – the yellow card,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“It was a definite dive. I’m seeing too much of it. He went down way too easily, and I hate it.

“But when you cry wolf – you don’t get the decisions later on in the game. There was far too much of it from Everton, for me – it verged on embarrassing at times.

“Players like Richarlison, as well, falling down when the wind blows. I just can’t stand to watch it.

“It was a joke. I can’t believe the Everton fans are happy to watch that every week.”
