Anthony Gordon sends message to Newcastle fans after potential calamity
Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon has taken to social media to send a message to the fans after saving his side from a potential giant-killing in their FA Cup win over Bromley on Sunday (January 12).
The 23-year-old replaced Harvey Barnes at half-time with the score at 1-1 to help Eddie Howe’s side progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup.
League Two Bromley took a surprise lead at St James’ Park after just eight minutes through Cameron Congreve’s long-range effort.
Young midfielder Lewis Miley restored parity just eight minutes later with a thundering long-range effort, his second goal since breaking into the first team back in 2023.
Howe called on the big guns at half-time, bringing on both Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes to help secure the win over the League Two side.
Newcastle were awarded the penalty in the 49th minute after Matt Target was brought down by an opposition defender, allowing Gordon to give his side the lead.
William Osula later scored his first goal for the club since joining in the summer, sending the Premier League club to the next round.
