Anthony Martial: Pundit issues three-word verdict on Newcastle United renewing pursuit

Newcastle United will not renew their interest in Man United forward Anthony Martial this summer.

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 26-year-old’s future at Old Trafford.

According to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson (27 June), Martial is one of five players the Red Devils will listen to offers for in this window.

Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alex Telles are also said to be surplus to requirements.

Martial was heavily linked with a move to St. James’ Park in January but instead chose to join La Liga giants Sevilla on loan.

When asked by Football Insider if Eddie Howe’s side should revisit a move for the Frenchman, Robinson issued a three-word verdict: “That has sailed.

“I think he has missed his opportunity to go there. Callum Wilson is a better player than him right now.

“Martial went to Sevilla and it did not work for him. He did not set the world alight there.

“For Newcastle to revisit it… I just can’t see it to be honest. I don’t think that is a possibility.

“Martial has missed the chance to move there. I firmly believe that ship has sailed.”

Martial contributed one goal and one assist in 12 appearances during his loan spell in Spain.

His contract at Man United runs until the end of June 2024.
