Anthony Ralston: Fans tear into Celtic star after what he did for Scotland
Scotland fans have torn into Anthony Ralston after his performance in the UEFA Nations League defeat against Croatia on 12 October.
Steve Clarke’s side fell to a 2-1 defeat in Zagreb after Ryan Christie’s opening goal was overturned by strikes from Igor Matanovic and Andrej Kramaric.
The result has increased the pressure on the manager’s job, and Ralston’s constant involvement in the first team has further added to the calls for his sack.
After the starting XI was announced on social media, fans questioned the 25-year-old’s inclusion ahead of Aberdeen star Nicky Devlin given his early-season form.
However, it was his involvement in Croatia’s first goal which left fans fuming after he made no attempt to block Matanovic’s strike on the line.
Ralston was close enough to block the shot, which many insisted should have been saved by Craig Gordon, but instead watched it roll into the back of the net.
This, combined with another shaky all-round performance from the Celtic man, have led to widespread calls for him to be dropped from the national team.
Celtic star Anthony Ralston slammed after Scotland v Croatia
Ralston has made just three league appearances for Celtic so far this season, all of which came from the bench, and has started just one game across all competitions.
However, he has started all three of Scotland’s Nations League clashes and played 90 minutes in defeats to Poland, Portugal and now Croatia.
As a result, fans are again questioning Clarke’s decisions, while the full-back has been labelled “embarrassing” and “horrendous” after his most recent performance.
In other news, Celtic have been hit by a “dramatic” financial blow.
