Antoine Semenyo would ‘love’ to agree Man City deal

Man City have been backed to strike a deal with Bournemouth and Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes that Semenyo would be open to moving to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Semenyo has a £65million release clause in his Bournemouth contract, which he signed in the summer amid interest from Spurs.

Man City are among the Premier League clubs plotting a move for Semenyo, with rivals Liverpool also wanting to lure the 25-year-old away from Bournemouth.

Antoine Semenyo deal ‘could be done in January’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – states that Man City would be able to afford the £65m release clause in January.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks it could be a deal to keep an eye on in the upcoming transfer window.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Yeah, it’s funny. Today we’re going to be speaking about Man City time and time again about potential players, and yet we kept on talking about Pep reducing the number of the squad, but they are still interested in a number of things that’s for sure because it’s like Pep can’t help himself, he’s just got to be interested

I think Semenyo is actually one of those players and I think he would suit City but I don’t know if he’s the finished article for Pep. At 65 million, which apparently is the release clause, he’s certainly within their grasp

I think he would love to go. He is an exciting young talent and I think he may suit City to a degree, but I’m not 100%. So let’s just watch that one, but yes I think of all the clubs I think so many have said City is where he’d like to go, and I think that’s what really helps him so it could be one that could be done in January.”

Man City close to financial breach

Whist Guardiola wants to add to his squad, Man City have been warned they are close to breaching financial rules.

The Premier League have voted to adopt a squad cost ratio (SCR) system from next season to replace the current profit and sustainability rules (PSR) currently used.

Other top Premier League clubs may also not benefit from the new rules, which will come into play from the start of the 2026-27 season.
