Antonio Conte backed to sign multiple former players in January after Tottenham source’s reveal – pundit

Antonio Conte is likely to bring one or more of his former players to Tottenham during the January transfer window.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ plans for the upcoming January transfer window.

Stefan de Vrij, 30, is out of contract at the end of the season, as is his Inter Milan teammate Milan Skriniar, 27.

Both players featured heavily under Antonio Conte when he was Inter boss and both have been linked with moves to Spurs in the past.

On 11 November Football Insider revealed Tottenham remain keen on signing De Vrij amid new doubts over his Inter Milan future.

McManus insists Conte wants to bulk out his squad with players he can trust.

“Conte hasn’t been at Spurs that long, really,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“It’s not his squad yet. It’s a bit unfamiliar. Maybe some players he has worked with before coming in could help him and the club.

“We have seen it with Perisic, he has come in and been a revelation. He’s got seven assists already I think. He’s doing some of the heavy lifting going forward and at the back.

“He is a slightly older player who a lot of Premier League teams would have looked at and maybe thought he was past it.

“Clearly, Conte knows better than that. He knows these guys.

So if either of the guys from Inter come in then you would have to back them to improve the side.

“And let’s face it, that defence needs improving.”
