Antonio Conte ‘has a real problem’ at Tottenham after Son Heung-min reveal – pundit
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte “has a real problem” with Son Heung-min and Richarlison, according to Paul Robinson.
The former White Hart Lane number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Son, 30, has not reacted well to the competition of Richarlison, 25.
Richarlison produced a man of the match display in a 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday (3 September).
The Brazil international replaced Dejan Kulusevski in the starting lineup at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Son is still searching for his first goal of the season after finishing the last campaign as the division’s top scorer.
As quoted by Football.London (28 August), Antonio Conte backed his “disappointed” striker to return to his best goalscoring form soon.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Conte’s forwards options, Robinson said: “The manager has a real problem though.
“We know that Son is not playing as well as he can. He has not taken the challenge of Richarlison well. I think he has gone into his shell a little bit rather than embracing the competition.
“I don’t think he likes being brought off after 70 minutes. He likes the comfort of knowing he will play the entire game.
“I think we will get a better Son in the following weeks because Kulusevski was dropped rather than Son to make room for Richarlison.
“The manager has a real problem picking now because Richarlison has proved he is as good, if not better, than what is starting.
“It is a matter of time for Son though. He hit the bar, scored an offside goal and has been given the vote of confidence from the manager.”
