Antonio Conte has no faith in three Tottenham stars and will sign upgrades this summer – expert

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has no faith in Emerson Royal, Ryan Sessegnon or Sergio Reguilon and will look to upgrade wing-backs in the summer.

That is the view of former White Hart Lane number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ options in wide areas.

Tottenham struggled to a 0-0 draw at the Brentford Community Stadium on Saturday.

As quoted by Football.London (23 April), Conte refused to comment when asked if top wing-backs were needed for his system to succeed.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his view on Tottenham’s full-backs, Robinson said: “Emerson has been poor.

“They have missed Doherty. He’s been their best full-back this season which says a lot when he couldn’t get a game last year.

“I was surprised to see Sessegnon started. I want to see Reguilon given more time but he hasn’t hit the heights expected. The fact that the manager changes the full-backs regularly shows you that the manager is not happy.

“Emerson has an opportunity until the end of the season but he was brought off at Brentford. Conte is clearly not happy with them.

“He will definitely be looking to bring in couple in those areas in the summer. The wing-backs is an area he has to address because he clearly doesn’t believe in Emerson, Reguilon or Sessegnon.

“In this system you need top players in those areas. The wing-backs are as important as the central striker.”
