Antonio Conte: Pundit issues ‘massive’ Tottenham claim – ‘It’s all happening at Spurs’

Frank McAvennie has claimed Antonio Conte “can’t complain” about his Tottenham squad.

The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insists the Italian knew what he was signing up for when he became Spurs boss.

As quoted by The Guardian, Conte said he was “disappointed and frustrated” after his Tottenham side bowed out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 loss against Middlesbrough on Tuesday (1 March).

The medical staff at the north London club are the subject of the Italian’s latest ire after he called on his club doctors to explain the reason for Oliver Skipp’s injury setback in a pre-match press conference yesterday (4 March).

McAvennie insists Conte must have known the “massive” job that awaited him at Tottenham.

“What next? It’s all happening at Tottenham,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Conte is a top, top manager. He must have known what he was walking into.

“Tottenham have been a mess for years. The defenders can’t defend and the midfielders aren’t good enough.

“The striker doesn’t want to be there. It’s a massive job and he must have known what he was in for, he can’t complain.

“That club needs an overhaul. Conte is a good person to lead that but he might not be there next season.

“If he can’t be bothered and there is a better option on the table, he will leave.

“I think we all know that. He will be hoping there is a strong end to the season but I can’t see it.”
