Antonio Conte ‘under a lot of pressure’ as ‘massive’ Tottenham transfer verdict issued by pundit
Noel Whelan has insisted Antonio Conte is “under a lot of pressure” to deliver success at Tottenham after Daniel Levy granted his wish for transfer backing.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 52-year-old will be looking to add players in three key areas this summer.
Tottenham announced on Tuesday (24 May) that owners ENIC had injected £150million into the club via a share issue in the wake of their Champions League qualification.
Club chairman Daniel Levy stated the development would allow “further investment in the club at an important time”.
Football.london claim (24 May) the majority of the funds will be used to help Conte in the transfer market.
Whelan claimed the Italian will be targeting big-money additions at centre-back, wing-back, and central midfield this summer.
“He gets what he wants – and I don’t think he’d have it any other way, or he wouldn’t be at Spurs,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“This is what he needed. If he doesn’t get it right now, it won’t be because he wasn’t given the backing.
“He’s under a lot of pressure now to deliver.
“So far, with the two signings he brought in January, he’s got it right.
“It’s a lot of money for what is a massive window. I’m sure he’ll have targets in mind. Full-back areas have been a problem.
“Another centre-half could be on the agenda. I think he’ll want to add a creative midfielder as well.”

Conte raided his former club Juventus to bring Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski to London in January.
As revealed by Football Insider (28 May), Spurs are set to sign Fraser Forster – while Ivan Persisic is also close to agreeing a move.
In other news, Tottenham have opened preliminary talks to sign super-quick wide man.
