Antonio Conte will be fuming at Tottenham stars amid ‘big’ reveal – expert

Paul Robinson has claimed Antonio Conte “won’t be pleased” with his Tottenham side’s “sloppy” second-half performance which allowed 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt back into the game on Wednesday (12 October).

The former Spurs and England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Italian’s substitutes will come under fire after failing to put the eventual 3-2 win beyond doubt.

Tottenham held on to take a vital three points at home despite 10-man Frankfurt pulling an 87th-minute goal back and Harry Kane missing an injury-time penalty.

Speaking post-match and quoted by football.london, the Spurs boss suggested Frankfurt’s fightback must be a “big lesson” for his players.

Tottenham are now top of Group D ahead of games against Marseille and Sporting CP.

Conte made five second-half changes, with the likes of Oliver Skipp, Yves Bissouma and Bryan Gil entering the fray.

Robinson suggested the Italian won’t be happy with his substitutes’ impact.

He told Football Insider: “They made it hard for themselves in the end.

“They came back well in the first half and I thought they were outstanding in that half. I was at the game.

“But the second half, when Frankfurt had the man sent off, Spurs had the chances to win it.

“Kane obviously blazed his penalty over the bar, and he also squared it to Bryan Gil in front of goal – there should have been more care there.

“They were just a bit sloppy and untidy in the final third, and it’s always a bit nervy when a 10-man team get a goal back.

“Defensively it was a decent performance. But at 3-1 up against a 10-man side, you would think they were cruising, but they were suddenly on the ropes.

“Conte won’t be pleased with his substitutes’ performances. He made changes in the hopes of closing the game out, and they didn’t do that.”
