Armando Broja: Pundit issues two-word West Ham verdict after £58m update from Italy

West Ham have been priced out of a summer move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja.

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Irons’ pursuit of the 20-year-old.

This site revealed on 24 January that David Moyes’s side are interested in signing Broja following an impressive loan spell at Southampton.

It is believed recruitment chief Rob Newman has been running the rule over the centre-forward and has delivered glowing reports to Moyes.

According to Tuttomercatoweb (3 March), Chelsea have slapped a £58million price tag on their striker, who is under contract at Stamford Bridge until the summer of 2026.

When asked by Football Insider whether the Irons would pay the aforementioned price, Robinson issued a two-word verdict: “No chance.

“I cannot imagine West Ham spending that type of money. They didn’t spend anything in the last window.

“They had bids for for Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips but were they never really prepared to pay that kind of money? They’ve had it before with James Tarkowski.

“They quite often go nowhere near the asking price of players. West Ham are not renowned for paying big transfer fees. There are rumours all of the time but they are never near the valuation.

“I cannot see West Ham spending £50million on Broja. He’s a good player but he’s overpriced at that.”

In other news, Kieran Maguire has issued a verdict on West Ham owner Daniel Kretinsky’s links to Gazprom as an asset freeze is mooted.
