Arne Slot will be sacked by Liverpool – ‘These four players are to blame’

Arne Slot will be sacked by Liverpool if they fail to turn results around ahead of crucial clashes against Newcastle, Man City and Sunderland.

Slot’s side lost 3-2 to Bournemouth in dramatic circumstances last time out and are now winless in their last five Premier League games, with just five wins in 18.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Slot‘s position is almost untenable with large sections of the fans now beginning to turn.

However, he has also been thrown under the bus by his players, with fingers pointed at his defensive players including the captain Virgil van Dijk.

Both Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate have made costly mistakes this season and the Reds no longer have a stable defensive foundation upon which to build their success.

Arne Slot facing Liverpool sack calls

Liverpool fans have called for Slot’s dismissal as a result of their recent run of form, which has seen them drop to sixth place in the Premier League behind rivals Man United.

Brown has warned that failure to get back to winning ways in the near future could cost the manager his job amid the unrelenting pressure on his position.

Arne Slot is facing some serious pressure at Liverpool,” Brown told Football Insider.

“They spent a hell of a lot of money in the summer just for results to get work, so then the fingers get pointed at the manager.

“He’s obviously got credit in the bank from last season, but if they can’t win games then ultimately it’s not good enough, and the fans are starting to become frustrated too.

“They’ve only got five wins in their last 18 games in the Premier League, that is not good enough for any Liverpool manager, so they need to start winning.

“The big question mark at Liverpool and a big reason for their form is about their defenders.

“Their two centre-backs, including Van Dijk, have not been anywhere near good enough and they’re dropping points because they don’t have that stable foundation.

“Nobody really asks questions of Van Dijk, we look at him as the calming presence, but he hasn’t been that this season and it’s a big problem.

“It’s that lack of defensive stability which has led to pressure on the manager, and if things continue the way they have been, he will be sacked.”

Liverpool set sights on move to sign Micky van de Ven

Amid concerns about their current defensive options, Liverpool have been eyeing a number of centre-back targets including Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven.

Football Insider revealed on 24 January that Van de Ven could push to leave Tottenham if their current league struggles continue, placing clubs on alert.

Liverpool are the current favourites to sign Van de Ven as he is continually linked away from Tottenham, with Real Madrid also known to be keeping tabs on his availability.

Alongside Slot, Thomas Frank is also facing extreme pressure on his position at Tottenham, and he could be set to lose key players as a result.

Tottenham currently occupy 14th in the Premier League and their chances of qualifying for the Champions League look slim as things stand.
