Arne Slot’s first-season Liverpool target revealed by top pundit

Liverpool will want to win every competition they are in if Arne Slot becomes their new manager.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham, Leeds and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson claimed that the Reds would want to challenge for the Premier League title under the 45-year-old.

Sources told Football Insider on Friday (26 April) that Liverpool are in advanced talks with the Feyenoord boss.

BBC Sport also reported on Friday that the Reds have agreed a compensation deal worth up to £9.4million with Feyenoord for Slot, but no official announcement has been made by the club.

Robinson also believes the manager would have to sort out the immediate futures of many first-team stars at Anfield.

He suggested that there is potential for the likes of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson to follow Jurgen Klopp out the exit door this summer.

“They will want to challenge for the title,” he told the Inside Track podcast. “That’s where Liverpool are and that’s where they want to be. You look at the quality of the squad.

“There are going to be talks around Salah’s future, Van Dijk, Alisson… players of that type of age and ilk, whether they move on at the same time as Klopp moves on or not.

“There is going to be a little bit of a reshape, and that always happens when a new manager comes in.

“But realistic aims for Liverpool are challenging for the title and looking to win every competition that they are in.

“Being back in the Champions League is huge for them, having been unceremoniously dumped out of the Europa League this season by Atalanta, surprisingly.

“That has just been the catalyst for things dropping off lately, but realistically at the start of the season they are hoping to win every competition that they are in, that’s where they are.”
