Arsenal and Newcastle in five-club race to sign Steven Bergwijn – expert
Alan Hutton has suggested Arsenal and Newcastle United could be among the clubs in the hunt to sign Tottenham star Steven Bergwijn this summer.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 24-year-old would suit a number of top-flight sides looking to climb the table next season.
As reported by De Telegraaf (6 June), Spurs’ Premier League rivals have joined Ajax in the hunt to sign Bergwijn this summer.

The Netherlands international has been vocal about his desire to leave the north London outfit this summer.
Asked which Premier League sides he thought could be in the hunt, Hutton named five clubs with ambitious plans.
“I think he could fit in places like Arsenal, if there was an opportunity,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.
“If you look across the board I suppose, there are teams that are trying to do well. teams are trying to do well: West Ham, Villa, Arsenal, Newcastle. Everton are trying to get out of a sticky patch. Whether they can spend money or not is a different situation.
“I think he fits into a lot of teams with the attributes that he has. He’s got pace, an eye for a goal, he can see a pass, he’s robust and strong.
“I just think he needs to go somewhere where he’s showed that love. Where he’s one of the main players and he’s going to play most of the weeks. That’s when we’ll see the best of him.

“You think back to when Mourinho was in charge. He was nearly playing at full-back. What do you expect from an attacker. it’s been difficult and I do feel for him.”
Bergwijn started just four Premier League games during the 2021/22 season.
