Arsenal are close to agreeing deal for ‘high-quality’ new arrival

Arsenal are looking to provide their recruitment department with a further boost as they close in on a new appointment.

Andrea Berta replaced Edu Gaspar as Arsenal’s sporting director earlier this year after leaving Atletico Madrid.

Berta played a key role in the summer recruitment plans at the Emirates Stadium, with Arsenal spending around £250million on new signings.

Meanwhile, The Athletic reported on 11 November Arsenal are close to appointing Maurizio Micheli in a senior recruitment role.

Micheli is viewed as one of the top scouts in Italy following his work with Napoli, where he’s currently head of the Serie A club’s scouting department.

Maurizio Micheli has impressive CV ahead of Arsenal move

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Arsenal have been bringing in “high-quality people” at all levels in recent months.

That is currently helping matters on the pitch, with Mikel Arteta’s side sitting top of the Premier League table.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Micheli’s anticipated appointment, Borson said: “They’re looking to strengthen in all these areas, but I’m sure there was a number of people involved in those signings at Napoli as well.

“It wouldn’t just have been Micheli, but it looks like he’s got a great CV.

“Arsenal look like they’re doing things right from the boardroom all the way down into the football side onto the pitch.”

There have been plenty of changes behind the scenes after it was announced in September Tim Lewis would be leaving Arsenal in a revamp of the club’s board.

Arsenal backed to make another top appointment

Richard Garlick was promoted to chief executive from his previous role as managing director at the Emirates.

Meanwhile, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment’s (KSE) Kelly Blaha and Otto Maly have joined Arsenal’s board as non-executive directors alongside Dave Steiner, a long-term advisor to KSE, and producer Ben Winston.

“It looks like a very polished organisation at the moment, bringing in high-quality people at all levels and it’s obviously flowing through onto the pitch,” said Borson.

“There’s no sign that they’re making the wrong calls and, in fact, some of the people that have departed have found it more difficult at their new clubs.

“I think Micheli is likely to be another good appointment on the recruitment side.”

Arsenal currently sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League table after the opening 12 games of the season.
