Arsenal are ‘lining up finance’ to fund stadium expansion project
Arsenal are believed to be preparing for an expansion of the Emirates Stadium.
This is according to former Everton, Aston Villa and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Gunners may have rolled over their existing borrowing facilities with Barclays to allow this project to happen.
The Emirates has yet to have a major redevelopment since its opening in 2006, but this could now be about to change.

Keith Wyness: Arsenal eye Emirates expansion
Arsenal are currently on track for their best season in decades, and could win the quadruple before the campaign is out.
Therefore, this could be the best time for Mikel Arteta’s side to capitalise on their success by expanding their current infrastructure.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness explained Arsenal may now look to expand the Emirates once more to keep themselves relevant in terms of the stadium situation.
When commenting on them rolling over their existing borrowing facilities with Barclays, he said: “It means nothing really, just normal business as soon as we see. Arsenal are very bankable just now. They’re successful, we’re top of the table. They’re in all the competitions right now. I haven’t checked the bookies today, but I think there’s still even odds for the quadruple. They’re very bankable.
“But they’ll be looking right now also at the view of the re-engineering of the Emirates, which is the big project they’re going to be looking at. So they’ll be lining up finance around that just now, and I think it would be quite normal to roll over the present facilities while they look at the bigger picture about what might be needed for that situation.

“If you remember back when Emirates was built, David Dean and the group at that time, they had to put the club into a bit of debt to get it done but they were right to do it because the timing was really good in terms of the cost of money at that time. And now that’s sort of all been paid down to a great degree with some leeway and some headroom.
“So they’re going to go again and keep themselves relevant in terms of the stadium situation. So I think that’s the bigger picture compared to the finances, how they structure that and having a stable relationship with Barclays won’t hurt.”

How big could Arsenal grow the Emirates?
According to The Guardian on 7 October 2025, Arsenal have been exploring the possibility of expanding the Emirates to 70,000.
Currently, the stadium can hold 60,700 spectators, which makes it one of the biggest grounds in the Premier League.
However, if this ambition were realised, only Old Trafford would hold more at 74,879.
Arsenal are unlikely to have any trouble filling out a 70,000-seater ground either, with more than 100,000 supporters on the waiting list for a season ticket.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the expansion becomes a reality over the coming years.
