Arsenal backed to seal deal for ‘devastating’ Gabriel Martinelli ally in January – Campbell

Kevin Campbell has backed Arsenal to make a January move for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker suggested the 21-year-old would be good competition and cover for Gabriel Martinelli.

According to Football.London (26 September), Mudryk was one of the names under consideration at the Emirates in the summer transfer window.

It is said that the London club may look to do a deal for the winger in January as Emile Smith Rowe begins his rehabilitation from groin surgery.

Mudryk has four years remaining on his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk.

When asked by Football Insider if the Ukraine international would be a welcome addition at the Emirates, Campbell said: “Look, Mudryk is a player everyone is looking at.

“He is performing in the Champions League against top teams. He is young and could develop with this Arsenal side. I think he would be devastating in that system.

“No disrespect to Martinelli because he has been fantastic this season. He looks the part now. But every top team has two players for every position.

“Smith Rowe is really a midfielder. I think he is a number eight who plays out wide sometimes. If you have two specialist wingers Smith Rowe has to concentrate on one position which is not a bad thing. That is what we want, two players for every spot.”
