Arsenal board tipped to green light ‘multiple’ January signings after confirmed news – pundit

Noel Whelan has suggested Mikel Arteta will be handed a significant war chest in January to secure Champions League football at Arsenal.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 39-year-old manager will have been “knocking on the door” of the ownership for more transfer funds.

As quoted by the Guardian last Saturday (25 December), Arteta insisted Arsenal are “working to find solutions” ahead of the winter window.

The Spanish boss insisted new signings could be “really helpful” as they chase Champions League qualification.

Whelan insisted Arteta will be desperate to bolster their top-four prospects by bringing in “multiple quality” new faces.

“The money is available because of where they are and the job they’ve done in the first half of this season,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“If they were sitting tenth or 11th, there’d be no money available – the owners will see the bigger picture right now.

“This season could bring Champions League football back to Arsenal, which has been demanded for so many years now.

“Right now, it’s the right time for Arteta to be knocking on the door of the person who controls the purse strings and asking for those extra funds to sign multiple quality players.

“It would give them a much better chance of getting that top-four finish, for sure. The season couldn’t have gone much better so far, now they need to solidify and secure that position.”

Arsenal currently sit fourth in the Premier League table.

However, Manchester United, West Ham and Tottenham all have games in hand over the Gunners.
