Arsenal celebrations after Liverpool win will ‘come back to haunt them’ – pundit
Arsenal’s “over the top” celebrations after their triumph over Liverpool could backfire horribly, says Football Insider expert
Arsenal “over-celebrated” after their emphatic victory against Liverpool and it could “come back and haunt them”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson admitted he understood why the Gunners were so elated after their huge Emirates win on Sunday (4 February), but suggested they were excessive.
Many pundits, including Jamie Carragher, criticised Mikel Arteta’s side for the extended celebrations, particularly Martin Odegaard who was seen on the pitch taking pictures of the fans with a club photographer.
The three points cemented Arsenal’s position in the title race and afforded Man City the chance to usurp Jurgen Klopp’s side at the top of the table.
Robinson suggested that the Gunners’ post-match antics may get “under the skin” of fellow title challengers and warned them that it may make them look foolish come the end of the campaign.
“They’d just beaten a team that are top of the league,” he told Football Insider.
“They’ve put their season back on track.
“They had a blip before Christmas when they were sat top of the league.
“In recent performances, they’ve picked up, including a big win against Crystal Palace.
“The Liverpool game was probably their biggest game of the season, so you can understand the celebrations.
“That’s the way of the world in football.
“But did Arsenal over-celebrate? Yes, they probably did – it was a little over the top.
“But when you look at it properly, the photographer that Odegaard was with has been a lifelong Arsenal fan.
“On a day like that which could be pivotal for their season, you can see why they did it.

“It would have got under a few people’s skin, but I understand it.
“But it was too much and it could come back to haunt them.”
