Kieran Maguire issues ‘huge’ Arsenal claim after new Stan Kroenke development

Stan Kroenke has been unable to replicate his success in other sports with Arsenal because of the “huge” financial disparities in football.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the American billionaire’s latest triumph across the pond.

As relayed by football.london, the American billionaire’s NHL side the Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup on Monday (27 June).

The Stanley Cup is the most prestigious honour available in American ice hockey and is the third trophy won by teams in the Kroenke empire in 2022.

His lacrosse franchise the Colorado Mammoth and NFL side LA Rams also won the National League Cup and Super Bowl respectively.

But Arsenal finished outside the top four for a sixth successive season in 2021-22.

Maguire explained why Kroenke’s model has not proved as fruitful in Europe as it has in the United States.

“It’s harder to find success in a European sports model than it is in an American one,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Because of the democratisation of franchise sports, the draft system etcetera, the whole aim is to give as much chance of success as possible.

“That is the exact opposite of what we see in European football where dynasties are created and maintained because of huge financial advantages over competitors.

“Arsenal have taken their eye off the ball under the Kroenke regime. They try to do things on a lower budget but they are competing against clubs whose return on investment is not measured in financial results but in terms of silverware.

“They have slipped down the ladder as a result.”
