Arsenal could hand Jack Wilshere short-term deal amid rival interest – Campbell
Arsenal could hand Jack Wilshere a short-term contract after failing to sign a midfielder in January, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Highbury favourite, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Mikel Arteta could “utilise” the 30-year-old in the second half of the season.
Wilshere has been training with the Gunners first team since the beginning of October.
According to Dean Jones via Give Me Sport (6 February), West Brom are looking at signing the free agent, who was released by Bournemouth last year.
However, according to Football London (7 February), the ex-Arsenal and West Ham midfielder is ‘hopeful’ of signing a deal at the Emirates in the coming weeks.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on Wilshere’s situation, Campbell said:
“Our bench could be like an advert for Mothercare if we suffer a couple of injuries. It could be the youngest bench ever.
“A while ago I didn’t see any mileage in Jack Wilshere but I see it now. I see him potentially getting a short-term contract between now and the end of the season. He is a free agent so they can sign him at any time they want.

“It might be another body who Arteta could utilise. Wilshere knows the club, has quality and has experience at the top level.
“I didn’t see it before but now I see it. He has been training with the team for a few months now so he’s used to playing with everyone. I wouldn’t rule it out.”
