Arsenal could now turn attention to £35m Serge Gnabry deal after offer rejected – pundit
Noel Whelan has backed Arsenal to re-sign academy graduate Serge Gnabry after missing out on their “top targets” this summer.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 26-year-old would be a “smart” addition for Mikel Arteta’s men.
According to 90min (30 June), Arsenal are monitoring Gnabry’s situation at Bayern Munich as his contract standoff continues.

The Sun claim (3 July) that the £35m-rated Germany international has rejected a £200,000-a-week extension at the Allianz Arena – with both Manchester clubs also interested in his services.
Gnabry, who has 12 months remaining on his current deal, notched 17 goals and 10 assists for Bayern in the 2021-22 season.
Whelan backed the forward to “light up the Premier League” if he seals a move to England.
“I think with the fact that their top targets are now going elsewhere, this is probably the next exciting name on the list,”
“It would be a smart move. He’s got a year left so it would be a good deal for a very good international player – and someone who has played at the very highest level.
“I believe he would just further improve that attacking flair at Arsenal – even if they’re already so strong in that final third.
“They need to replace certain players and Gnabry is someone I think would light up the Premier League.”

Gnabry came through the ranks at Arsenal, making 18 first-team appearances for the club before leaving for Werder Bremen in 2016.
He has notched 64 goals and 40 assists in five years at Bayern Munich.
