Arsenal ‘doing everything they can’ to sign Viktor Gyokeres after ‘done deal’ claim

Arsenal are still trying to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer but may have already lost out to Man United, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Man United want to “reunite” Ruben Amorim and Gyokeres, but added that Arsenal are prepared to do “everything they can” to bring the striker to the Emirates.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 28 April that Man United are confident their move for Gyokeres is a “done deal” ahead of the summer window. The club have been working behind the scenes to secure terms and now find themselves in a strong position to finalise the transfer.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider in March that Gyokeres is keen on a move to Man United, despite the risk of missing out on Champions League football and the club’s underwhelming domestic form.

However, Arsenal are still firmly in the race and believe they can compete for his signature, with Mikel Arteta keen to add a prolific forward to his squad ahead of next season.

Arsenal set to lose out on Viktor Gyokeres as Man United talks continue

The former Coventry striker has become one of the most in-demand forwards in the transfer market after a sensational season with Sporting.

Football Insider revealed on 21 April that Arsenal had opened talks to sign Gyokeres, with new sporting director Andrea Berta spearheading the pursuit.

However, it now appears that Manchester United have taken control of the race, having laid significant groundwork behind the scenes to bring the Swedish international to Old Trafford.

Gyokeres’ form this season has been nothing short of outstanding, scoring 52 goals and providing 12 assists in just 48 appearances, adding to the 43 goals he scored last season.

With United now confident in completing a deal for Gyokeres, the Gunners appear to be shifting their focus to other targets.

Football Insider revealed that Arsenal are preparing to reignite their interest in Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins this summer.

The club failed with a £50 million bid for the England international during the January transfer window, with Villa instead preferring to offload Jhon Duran.

Watkins has found himself sidelined in recent high-profile fixtures, including the Champions League tie against PSG, raising questions over his future at Villa Park and potentially paving the way for Arsenal to make another move.
